Grows to about 24-30" tall. Basil has a lower germination rate than many seeds, averaging just 60%. Fortunately, our seed packets contain many more seeds than you'll need. To get a jump on the basil season, you can start your basil seeds indoors, 3 to 4 weeks before planting time. Put 4 to 6 seeds in a pot. Once the seedlings have their first set of true leaves, thin to 1 or 2 plants per pot. Basil transplants well, but the plants will appreciate being protected from wind and sun for the first several days. Basil has a lower germination rate than many seeds, averaging just 60%. Fortunately, our seed packets contain many more seeds than you'll need. Basil is a hot weather plant and is very susceptible to frost damage. Seeds and plants should not be put into the ground until the soil is warm (65 to 70 degrees) and the weather has settled. Even a cool, 50 degree night will slow down the plant's growth for some time afterward Growing Information: Full sun. Water frequently. Italian Large Leaf Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is a large plant with medium-dark green leaves up to 4" long. Basil is a hot weather plant and is very susceptible to frost damage. Even a cool, 50 degree night will slow down the plant's growth for some time afterward. Basil prefers growing in a lightly moist, slightly acidic, well-drained loamy soil that contains lots of organic matter (like compost!). Like most herbs, basil is not a heavy feeder, so there is no need to add any fertilizer to the soil around your plants. Basil is a good companion for tomatoes as it will tolerate being shaded as the tomato plant matures. To get the highest yield of tender and flavorful basil leaves, pinch back the tip of each branch, starting in early summer when the plants are just 6 inches tall. Continue pinching back the branches (as you harvest the leaves), pinching off any flowers that start to form. If the plant is not allowed to flower and set seed, it should continue producing high quality leaves right up to frost. Fairly resistant to damage from pests and disease, Italian Large Leaf self-seeds easily and grows well in a container. Very aromatic and as popular with bees and butterflies as it is with chefs, this is one of our most favorite basils. Plant in full sun and harvest frequently to keep from going to flower.Once it flowers the taste becomes more bitter. Uses/History: This culinary herb is a sweeter pesto type basil with high yields in the garden. Most of the general information provided is from the Vegetable Encyclopedia at , with additional facts provided by your friends at Seattle Seed Company.

Are you looking to try different flavors of microgreens and already have what you need to grow them?
Our new Sampler Pack contains one full ounce (1 oz) of each of 4 different non-GMO microgreens seeds so you have plenty of seed to try and enjoy many cycles of fresh greens. 2 spicier varieties and 2 mild varieties.
Currently packing Radish, Alfalfa, Arugula and Sunflower, but varieties are subject to change due to availability.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0608/6823/1321/files/89566f524b22c429620459031672f22a048d967b3dd9280bc2f7f953abd5136b_png.jpg?v=1738878761
beans-venice-bush-786882705
Beans - Venice (Bush)
  This bush bean is a consistent performer year after year, yielding huge quantities of dark green 5-6” straight pods. Chives are unsung heroes of the vegetable garden. This long-lived, hardy perennial is so easy and problem-free that it's easy to ignore. But don't! When you have a chive plant in your garden, fresh onion flavor for soups, salads and baked potatoes is always close at hand. The easiest way to get started with chives is to get a chunk from a friend or neighbor's plant. You can also just buy a potted plant at your local nursery. You can start chives by seed, but it will take a year or more before you will have plants big enough for harvesting. Once you get a clump established, it can easily be divided into smaller clumps in order to create more plants. There's nothing fussy about chives. They grow best in rich, moist soil in full sun, but will also grow in part shade. They do not require much in the way of fertilizers; a little slow-release organic fertilizer at planting time will keep them happy for three years or more, at which time you can divide the clump. Each clump is actually many little plants, each like a tiny onion. You can snip a few chives anytime that you wish. Leave behind about 2" of the stem when you harvest. The lavender-pink flowers are edible. Just cut off the base of the flower and sprinkle the little florets into salads or on sandwiches. The more you use your chives, the more fresh growth the plant will produce. In midsummer, the leaves can get tough if you don't keep picking them. Cut back the plant in places to stimulate growth. If you divide your plant in late summer and pot up a clump to bring indoors, you can keep some chives growing on the windowsill for much of the winter. You can also pot up another clump, cut off most of the foliage, and leave the pot outside in the cold. Bring it indoors in mid-winter and your chives will begin growing right away. Use a plastic pot so it won't break when the soil freezes. Chives will spread by seed if you don't pick the flowers, but the little grass-like plants are easy to pull and pleasant to eat.
